** Special Consumer Message ** Spotted wing drosophila is a new arrival to Oregon but can be controlled using agronomically acceptable management strategies. Growers and researchers are working together to identify the most effective strategies. It is not anticipated that consumer products wil be compromised as a result of the introduction of SWD. As with all fruit and vegetables, it is a good idea to wash your produce before consumption to remove dust, pesticide residues, or other unwanted surface contaminants. Consumers should be confident that Oregon fruit remains high-quality and wholesome.
This web site is maintained with the objective to disseminate the most current scientific knowledge of Spotted Wing Drosophila fruit fly biology, management, and effects on Pacific Northwest berry crops. This is an invasive pest attacking multiple fresh fruits. The site is oriented toward commercial growers and public & private research organizations. Research on the Spotted Wing Drosophila is a multi-institutional collaborative effort, with projects at:
- Oregon State University (Integrated Plant Protection Center, Department of Horticulture, Department of Crop and Soil Science);
- Washington State University;
- University of California – Berkeley;
- University of California – Davis;
- University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources;
- United States Department of Agriculture – Horticultural Crops Research Lab; and
